ACADEMIC DECATHLON:  Congratulations to the CHS Academic team that placed 3rd at the Kings County Academic Decathlon.  The Panthers won the Oral Super Quiz event.  Top panther decathletes were Jose-Manuel Martinez, who won 4 individual medals and a scholarship and Luis Zamora, who won 6 individual medals including 1st place in both the Science and essay events.  10 of the 12 Panther participants took home at least one medal.  Congrats again to our best and brightest!

ALL STUDENTS:  there will be no school on the following days in February:

February 13  -  Lincoln’s Day

February 20   -  President’s Day

Reminders regarding dress code:

Shorts/skirts/holes in jeans cannot be more than 4 inches above the knee, if they are worn solid leggings need to be worn underneath not tights.

Sagging pants are not allowed, pants must be at the waist.

Clothing and jewelry must be free of inappropriate or suggestive depictions.

Red or blue shoelaces used for shoes or pants are not allowed.

No facial piercings are allowed.  Clear, plastic retainers must be put in their place during school.

** Please remember, if you violate the dress code you will be assigned a Saturday school if it is your first offense, a second offense is a suspension.  If you have any questions about the dress code, please see Ms. Sanchez in the main office.

ALL BOYS: If you are interested in playing Boys’ Tennis, you need to see Mr. Albert in Sci. 3 immediately and attend a meeting on Tuesday, February 14th.

ATTENTION  ALL 11th GRADERS: In March, you will be taking the Early Assessment Program exam. Your English and Math teachers will soon be going over this with you. It is very important that you take this exam seriously, as it can have an impact on whether or not you get into a state university (even with a conditional acceptance) and the classes you will be taking if you are going to a community college. If you have any questions, please ask your teachers, your counselors or one of your LD’s.

JUNIORS: Please pay for your class shirts by the end of next week or you will be on the debt list!

JUNIORS and SENIORS:  If you plan to pursue a career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or allied health, a representative from Fresno State Health Careers Opportunity Program will be on campus Friday, February 17th.  Sign up in the counseling office.

ALL STUDENTS: Lifetouch will be on campus TODAY from 8:00am to 12:00 noon to take spring pictures.  Only students who are purchasing pictures will be allowed to take their picture.  This year all pictures will be taken on a pre-paid basis.  Order forms are in the Activities Office.  It is your responsibility to pick up the order form and bring it with you on February 14th if you want to purchase pictures.  Remember – Only those students purchasing pictures will be excused from class to go to the auditorium to take their picture.

ALL STUDENTS: For every after school class you attend, you will receive a raffle ticket. At the end of February one student will win a prize. The prize for February is two tickets to the Sadie’s dance (generously donated by ASB).

CSF T-SHIRTS: Are on sale now!  Please pay $13 to Mrs. Santos in the Activities Office.  Deadline is Wednesday February 15th.  For more information, please see Mrs. Gomez in the Library.

FOUND: Lost ring.  Pleas describe it and it’s yours.  Stop by the main office.

.SENIORS

SENIORS: If you signed up to attend Eagle Days at West Hills please see Mrs. Sanchez at the TLC to pick up a field trip permission slip.

SENIORS: There will be a COS FAFSA Application Workshop on Tuesday, February 21st at the TLC.  This workshop is open to all students.  Also, students must bring their parent’s 2011 Income Tax information and your social security number on the day of the workshop.  Please sign up in the Counseling office.

SENIORS: If you’re planning on attending West Hills College next Fall, sign up for the Eagle Days trip to visit West Hills Lemoore on Feb. 24th.  Transportation will be provided.  Sign up in the counseling office.     

SENIORS: There are 8 Saturday schools remaining this school year.  If you have attendance to make up for previous year’s or this year, get them done early.  One requirement to be able to participate in graduation activities is that you have 95% attendance.  If you do not fulfill this requirement you are not participating in graduation.  If you have further questions, please see Ms. Sanchez in the main office.

SENIORS: Reminder that if you did not pass all sections of the CST, you need to go to tutoring and pass the alternate exam for missing subjects in order to participate in graduation. There are over 100 seniors who need one subject or more. Lists are posted or ask learning directors and counselors if you need to make up any subjects.

SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship award available to seniors who graduated from Waukena Elementary.  Contact counseling office for more info.
Boswell Scholarship applications will be available in the counseling office starting on February 10th.

Brock Jarrett Toledo Memorial Scholarship for graduating seniors.  Must be a member of California Jr. Holstein Association.

Corcoran Rotary Vocational Scholarship is available to CHS seniors who plan to attend a vocational school, community college, or university in the fall.  More information is available in the counseling office.

Matters of Life and Death Writing Scholarship is open to juniors and seniors.  Ms Reyes for more info.

TEACHERS:  Mark your calendar for February 14th.  Lifetouch will be in the auditorium to take spring pictures.  They will be here in the morning only.  Students are to be released to go to have their picture taken ONLY if they have their money and order form for purchase of the picture.
